Renee

WHY SHE DOES IT:

When I was between 7 and 10 years old, I was in a afternoon program with a mentor. She would not only do what she was paid to do, but went above and beyond, picking me up on her days off and spending time with me. Her commitment made me feel like I was the most important person. The time she spent with me left a big impression, and now I am experiencing it from the other side.

HER BIGGEST CHALLENGE:

Recruiting volunteers and getting out our letters to supporters for financial support.

HER BEST EXPERIENCES:

In the Fall of 1994, my friend Trudy and some other students from CCBI asked me to help raise funds or raffle items for a Northside Community Police Center fundraiser. We raised over $2,000, which allowed us to purchase the first computer for the Center. After that experience, I was hooked.

We took a group of kids camping for the weekend at Eighth Lake near Old Forge and it rained the entire weekend. That didn't deter the kids from having fun. We made the most of the time, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences I've had.

A FEW OF HER FAVES:

My coffee in the morning. I don’t like to waste any daylight. I love being with my family and friends and enjoy anything outdoors: Hunting, camping, walking , hiking, biking, and traveling.

WHAT SHE LOOKS FORWARD TO:

To continue to volunteer at the Police Center for as long as I can and facilitate groups in the Ropes Challenge Courses.
