Volunteer

Volunteering with the Northside Community Police Center is flexible. You can assist at the storefront during business hours on a schedule that works for you. We are open weekdays, 8:30am - 4:30pm. We also have events that take place after hours and on weekends.

Are you a great organizer? Love to fish or take photographs? Good with numbers? Know how to do mailings? Enjoy working with children? Have another area of interest or specialized skill? Please let us know and we'll take that into consideration when we suggest an assignment. The following information is intended to give you a general idea of where your talents may be put to use.

Police Center Operations

Volunteers who help perform the daily operations of the Police Center may serve in a variety of capacities, including:

  • Receptionist duties: Responding to telephone and walk-in inquires and taking messages, or referring callers to other departments or organizations for assistance.

Cooking
  • Service: Greeting citizens who walk into the center for information or to report a problem and obtain assistance. Prepare for and assist with community meetings.

  • Other: Assist with Police Center operations and events according to your specialized skills and interests. This could include anything from organizing and running an event, producing a mailing, fund raising, operating the Thrift Store, providing foreign language interpretation skills, creating an after-school program for children, etc.

Special Events

Throughout the year, we host a number of events and programs for children and youth. Much goes into making an event a success. Thousands of children and their families take part, particularly in the events that occur around the holidays.

While each event has it's unique requirements, in general we always need volunteers to help plan, execute and wrap-up:

  • Planning may include obtaining supplies, receiving and tracking donations, decorating and arranging the space, registering attendees and obtaining parental permissions, preparing food, and arranging items that the children will receive or use.

  • Executing includes everything that takes place once the event begins: Transporting items to a site where the event is being held, signing children and adults in or confirming their advanced registration, directing attendees through activities, preparing and serving food and refreshments, or taking photographs.

  • Takedown: The venue is cleaned-up and supplies are returned to their storage areas. Donations are acknowledged and supporters are thanked.

Some event-specific activities that volunteers assist with include:

  • Help children carve pumpkins or color Easter eggs

  • Walk children through the Christmas event to receive their gifts and take a photo with Santa

  • Event set-up and tear down: Filing, cleaning, returning items to storage

  • Fund raising efforts (mailings, pick up donations, etc.)

No matter what capacity they serve in, the contributions of our volunteers are valued. If you would like more information about becoming a volunteer, please contact us.
